Description
The VS321 from Milesight is a wireless battery-operated AI occupancy sensor with advanced algorithms that achieve up to 95% detection accuracy. With built-in temperature, humidity and light sensors, the VS321 offers complete environmental monitoring in a single device. The sensor supports two modes: People Counting for counting people and Desk Occupancy for workplace occupancy detection, both with PIR triggered activation to save energy.
Via LoRaWAN, the VS321 communicates wirelessly with gateways for remote monitoring and data visualization. The 129° horizontal and 93° vertical field of view covers large spaces from 2.4 to 4 meters installation height, and scheduled hibernation extends the battery life up to 11 years under normal use. The sensor is fully GDPR compliant without image collection for privacy protection.
How does the Milesight VS321 work in practice?
Do you buy the VS321? Then you get a plug and play occupancy sensor without cabling. Insert 4 ER14505 batteries, mount the sensor on the ceiling with screws or adhesive backing, configure via Bluetooth, and the sensor automatically detects occupancy and environmental conditions. Via the LoRaWAN gateway the sensor reports data to your management platform.
Office buildings with flex workspaces use the VS321 in Desk Occupancy mode for workplace optimization. Mount one sensor per workplace zone at 2.5 to 3 meters height, and the AI algorithms detect whether desks are occupied with 95% accuracy. Facility managers see in the dashboard which floors are busiest for capacity planning, and the temperature and humidity data helps optimize HVAC systems per zone based on actual occupancy.
Meeting rooms and conference rooms place the VS321 in People Counting mode for automatic booking systems. The sensor counts how many people enter a room via the 129° wide angle detection and compares this with the booked number. In case of a discrepancy, the sensor automatically triggers the release of unused meetings, so other teams can claim the room. The scheduled hibernation function switches off detection outside office hours for 11 years of battery life.
Universities and educational institutions monitor study halls and libraries for real-time capacity reporting. The VS321 in People Counting mode counts visitors at study tables, and via the dashboard students see which rooms still have seats before they travel there. The temperature and humidity monitoring alerts the facility team to poor air quality during busy periods, and the PIR activation ensures the sensor is only active when motion is actually detected.
Coworking spaces and business centers use the VS321 for workplace management. In Desk Occupancy mode, each sensor tracks individual workplace usage, and billing systems calculate accurate costs based on actual use instead of booked hours. The 2045 records of local storage ensure that no data is lost during temporary connectivity problems, and data retransmission sends missed data as soon as the connection is restored. Members see via the app which zones are quiet for focused work versus social zones.
